The Clarkston boys golf team have been hard at work over the summer and are hoping their efforts will pay off at the state finals this season. Members of the golf team won 10 individual tournaments this summer.
New Head Coach Mark Wiegand is hoping the success over the summer will translate into quality golf this season.
‘They are all strong players,? Wiegand said. ‘They can hit the ball a long way. We have three players (Matt Fuller, Chris Graczyk and Blake Schmidt), who have played very consistent. I hope that keeps going. We have a lot of kids who can play at this level. It makes it nice to have a lot of selection.?
The Wolves began their season with a victory at the Troy Invitational on August 23. Clarkston won the tournament by 13 strokes and junior Brandon Stone won the individual title by shooting a 70.
Clarkston followed that by taking second place at the first OAA I tournament on August 25. The Wolves shot 293, which was two shots behind tournament champion Bloomfield Hills Lahser. The Wolves had three golfers finish in the top 10.
