Clarkston Community School’s reduction in state aid for the current school year has been compensated by a $711,716 rebate from Oakland Schools.
The intermediate school district last year announced plans to return $20.5 million to local districts after controversy ensued over use of designated special education funds for the new Oakland Schools headquarters building.
Bruce Beamer, executive director for business and financial services for Clarkston schools, had previously reported a reduction in $672,000 because of the $84 per student reduction in the state ‘foundation grant.? District officials were already planning ways to further cut the current year budget to compensate.
The Oakland Schools rebate ‘helps balance it out,? Beamer said.
The rebate technically is earmarked for special education purposes, but Beamer said it will go into the district general fund.
‘We’ve already used general fund dollars to balance the special education budget,? he said.
