Churches build Pontiac woman a new home

Kellie Collins has a new home thanks to the Habitat for Humanity North Oakland Circle of Faith.
Circle of Faith consists of volunteers from 18 churches in northern Oakland County who participated in the 2005 Jimmy Carter Blitz Build.
The group joined together about a year ago and raised $65,000 needed to build the home.
Fundraisers included a concert in February and a pancake breakfast/spaghetti dinner and auctions held in March. The two events raised about $16,000.
Collins and her two children will live at 317 Rockwell in Pontiac. This house was built during a two week blitz build from June 11-24.
About 300 volunteers gave hundreds of hours to build this house. Other volunteers helped with parking, hospitality and shuttling workers to the home site.
At the dedication, Collins was overcome with emotion as she was presented with the keys to her new home by the house leaders who supervised the construction.
Nine other homes were being built in Pontiac through the Habitat for Humanity Oakland County affiliate.
Each homeowner must go through an interview process and qualify by living in substandard housing and have a job with income guidelines.
Once chosen, the person must put 250 ‘sweat equity? hours into working on their house or another Habitat house.
Churches that are part of the coalition include Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Church of the Resurrections (Clarkston), United Methodist Church, Clarkston Community Church, Community Presbyterian Church (Drayton Plains), First Congregational Church, Immanuel Congregational Church, King of Kings Lutheran Church, Lake Orion United Methodist Church, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Oxford United Methodist Church, Sashabaw United Presbyterian Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Marys in the Hills Episcopal Church and The Journey Community Church.
