The Clarkston tennis got some of their missing senior leadership back on May 5 as they routed Farmington Hills Harrison, 7-1.
The good times were fleeting, however, as Farmington High took back inter-city bragging rights from C-town with a 5-3 victory on May 9.
Senior Amit Surapaneni, who missed the team’s past five matches while travelling, won against Harrison’s Aaron Work in his return to action, but lost to Alex Perez against Farmington. Cluas felt having him back though allowed other players to be slotted in flights more in line with their talent level.
‘It was certainly nice getting (Surapaneni) back and to have the luxury of a senior back at the number one singles flight,? said Claus.
The doubles, as they have been all season, were a source of strength for the Wolves.
Number one doubles tandem: Chris Graczyk and Pat McIlrath; three doubles: Zach McDonald and Dan Osterhage; and four doubles: Erik Ejups and Sean Kurowski; all beat their counterparts from Farmington and Harrison.
Clarkston is now 4-4-1 (2-3-1) on the season, a marked improvement from their 1-7 record last year.
The Farmington match was the last dual meet of the season. The Wolves will now prepare for the OAA tournament on May 12.
‘I’d really like to see us do well against the teams we’ve been hovering even with,? said Claus.
Clarkston lost 5-3 decisions this year to Farmington and Lake Orion and tied Berkley 4-4.
