Cheer team wraps up competitive season

After a successful season that included their first league title and a team GPA of 3.40, the Oxford Varsity Competitive Cheer Team will be saying good-bye to 12 senior leaders.
“These were amazing young women with a commitment to compete,” said Coach Kristy Gibson-Marshall. “They never gave in, never quit and put up a fight until their last step off the mat.”
Gibson-Marshall stated that this year’s team was one of the best. The ladies raised the bar for next season by placing their Round 3 (stunt level) difficulty higher than any past Oxford cheer team. In this year’s routine, the team incorporated double twist cradles, 24 “360” skills, team handsprings and 20 one-legged stunts.
In addition to their Flint Metro League Title, the Lady Cats took first places at Armada, Houghton Lake and MHSAA regionals. The team took third places at the Lapeer Classic and the Lake Orion Invitational.
“I am very proud of this team’s accomplishments on the mat, in the classroom and in life,” said Gibson-Marshall. “They are a quality group of athletes that put 200 percent into everyday… Many student athletes could learn valuable lessons from this team.”
