Although the Oxford Varsity competitive cheer team is ‘struggling overall? since their season began, Coach Alanna Stockley said it’s good practice for next week’s Flint Metro League tournament Oxford’s hosting.
At last Saturday’s competition against Lapeer East, the girls score 180 in the first round, 153.78 in the second and 223.5 in the third. They placed 6th at the event.
‘We have a lot of talent we just have not focused the talent in the rounds like we need to,? Stockley said. ‘We are having a hard time hitting our stunts in round three, but are improving each week.?
The coach attributes the team’s slow start to having some girls who have never cheered competitively before and for some, this is their first time cheering. ‘We are young, but are working hard every day at practice to become a stronger competitive team,? she said.
The team will travel to Flushing this Saturday for a competition (time TBA) and will host the FML tournament next Wednesday, Jan. 16, beginning at 6 p.m.
