Cheer team ends year fourth in regionals

Although they didn’t make an appearance in the 2004 state finals held March 13, Lake Orion High School varsity competitive cheerleading coach Nancy de Avila said her team performed the best they had all year at the regional competition on March 6.
Lake Orion finished fourth, two places out of the second place finish they needed to qualify for the state finals, held in Grand Rapids this year.
Rochester finished first and Troy Athens second in the regional competition.
‘I wasn’t disappointed in anything,? said De Avila. ‘They scored low in round one, but round two and three were the best performances of the year. The kids were a little disappointed with the outcome but happy with what they’d done.?
De Avila said her team showed a lot of spirit and didn’t let the first round get them down.
‘They were beautiful to watch,? she said.
Lake Orion faced a new region this season, with Rochester their only returning competition.
De Avila said this was probably a factor in how they did this year.
‘There was nothing more they could have done,? she said.
