For the first time in the school’s history, the Oxford High School varsity competitive cheer team has made it to the state finals.
The girls became regional champs for Division II last Saturday as 14 other teams competed on Oxford’s home turf.
Scoring a 183 in the first round, a 185.9 in the second and a 285.5 in the third pushed the girls into the victory and a nice, shiny trophy to display.
‘It was the most amazing experience I’ve ever been a part of,? Coach Alanna Stockley said.
‘There were so many good teams that were going to be there. We were hoping for the top four.?
The girls will head to the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids for state finals this Saturday at 10 a.m.
Until then, Stockley said practices will be ‘low-key? and ‘simple? before leaving town on Friday night.
‘We’re just going to walk through the rounds and have a really fun week because it’s going to be a fun weekend,? she said.
Although Stockley said the team started out ‘pretty rocky? towards the beginning of the season, they’ve focused on uniting as one team, which she said has made the difference.
