Charles Thomas McKinney, Sr., “Tom”, of Chase Township, age 76, passed away to his heavenly home on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024.
Tom was born on July 11, 1948, in Pontiac to George Thomas and Edith Emily (Nique) McKinney. He attended Lake Orion Schools and then went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1967 until 1971. He lived in the Lake Orion area until his retirement. He then moved up north to the property that he and his father bought together in Chase.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; siblings Larry Lyons (brother) and Jean McCollum (sister); and several aunts and uncles. Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his children: Charles Thomas Mckinney, Jr., Cindy McKinney-Volz (Jason); grandchildren Riley Marie Volz and Kayla Dee Volz (Jamier Wilkes); one great-granddaughter Jasmine Grace Wilkes.
Tom is also survived by his longtime partner, Linda Thornbro; aunts Carol, Freddie, Pauline and Ann; many cousins, nieces and nephews; Stephanie and Shannon Gombar and their families; and his sister Linda Waltz (Jeff) of Orion.
In keeping with Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family is planning a memorial service in the spring of 2025. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Corewell Health Hospice and Palliative Care.
