Crowds of visitors enjoyed a pleasant Saturday evening at Lakeview Cemetery to learn about Clarkston’s earliest residents.
Volunteers with Clarkston Community Historical Society guided them on the Cemetery Walk, with stops at gravesites, the occupants of which were portrayed by costumed re-enactors, May 21.
Julie Meredith portrayed Clarkston socialite Eva Esther Walter; Kay Robertson played former New Yorker Sarah Foster; Fred Irish played Jesse Skarritt, horse-drawn bus driver; Diane Clark portrayed the Lady in Mourning, greeting visitors and explaining Victorian mourning customs; Spencer Bunting played builder Peter Addis; Rhett Grant played Peter Green, livery owner; Clark Headrick played Samuel Miller, successful farmer who lived the high life; Joe and Melissa Luginski portray Milton and Hannah Clark, owner of M.H. Clark Dry Goods; and Cathy Phillips Forst plays Elizabeth Miller, determined farmer who lived to 101.
“It was fun finding out about her,” said Forst, who is Miller’s great great granddaughter. “She lived to be over 100 years old ? an amazing thing for the time.”
