Not everyone can say super stars helped build their home. Veteran Shannon Chatman can say just that, after country superstar duo Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard from the band Florida Georgia Line paid an unannounced special visit to a work site of a My Habitat Clarkston build on Hogback Lake Road in Springfield Township.
Local superstars also came out in droves to help as church leaders and business leaders attended to help build and raise the walls starting on Oct.10. Volunteers worked on Friday and Saturday. About 300 man hours will be spent building the home. Chatman has a full-time job and is a single mother of three.
A ceremony to break ground on the new home was held in August.
The build is budgeted at $130,000 for the purchase of land and materials for its complete construction this summer. Chatman qualified for a no-profit mortgage.
FGL’s Kelly and Hubbard have helped on other Habitat builds and have said they plan to raise $100,000 for the cause.
“Owning a Habitat home is truly life-changing,” Chatman said. “I appreciate your hard work and willingness to partner with me on creating a home for my family.”
She added she plans on earning a master’s degree and starting a college fund for her children. She was grateful to have been given an opportunity for safe and secure home.
