The Oxford varsity boys baseball team is now 27-5 overall heading into district play against Lake Orion after defeating Swartz Creek last Thursday and winning the Adrian Maple Invitational on Saturday.
The Wildcats tore up Swartz Creek in game one with a 9-1 win. Junior Kyle Teague pitched a four-hitter and allowed one earned run in the league-clinching victory, while senior Brandon Dugan was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s. Senior Bobby Rhodes also added a three run home run in the 5th inning to put the game out of reach for the Dragons.
In game two, Oxford defeated Swartz Creek 9-2. Senior Jeremy Bukoski pitched a four-hitter, senior Vinnie Ives hit a two-run home run, while Dugan, Teague, juniors Russell Luxton, Eric Turk and James McLean contributed two hits a piece.
Oxford ended their FML season 14-1, the most league wins ever for a Wildcat baseball team.
At the invitational, Oxford defeated the Adrian Maples 9-3, with Luxton earning the win from the mound.
In game two, the Wildcats pounced on Blissfield 5-4 on a passed ball in the top of the 7th. Blissfield loaded the bases in the bottom half of the 7th but Teague slammed the door shut for the victory.
In game three, Oxford defeated Monroe on a game winning RBI single hit by Dugan in the bottom half of the 7th.
Oxford takes on Lake Orion noon Saturday at home in district play.
