Cagers win final game

After a 54-48 loss against Stoney Creek last Tuesday, the discouraged Dragons boys basketball team was ready for a win.
They would only have one more regular season game against Troy Athens to do so.
And when they did rally to the win, it wasn’t for the faint of heart.
A close game throughout, the Dragons pulled out a last-second victory with a short jumper from Alex Mayo.
The shot pulled the Dragons ahead of Troy Athens 37-36 for the victory.
‘They played an inspired game,? Coach Lance Davis said. ‘The whole game was exciting.?
The game capped a losing regular season for the Dragons, who went 3-11 in their division and 3-17 overall.
Davis said the win against Troy Athens helped the team effectively bury all the regular season games.
‘The team that is before me is not the same team that started the season,? Davis said. ‘It’s been a long season. It’s a new season for everyone.?
According to the coach, he shared his sentiments of rebirth with the team right before the victory against Troy Athens.
He added that’s one of the reasons why the team did well.
‘We let everything go,? Davis said. ‘All the angst and frustration of the past season. We let it all go. We came out with a lot of enthusiasm to bury this season.?
Every team enters the playoffs with a 0-0 record, Davis said, and that’s how he wants his players to look at it.
The Dragons had a bye the first week of play.
Their first playoff game will be tonight against Oxford at Waterford Mott High School.
Oxford beat Lapeer East 57-59 in overtime Monday night to face the Dragons.
