The Lake Orion varsity boys basketball team saw their season come to an end on March 2, losing to the Troy Colts, 61-52, in the second game of the district playoffs.
The Dragons advanced in the districts after winning their opener against Rochester, 64-62, breaking Lake Orion’s six-game losing streak.
In the game against the Falcons, senior Chris O’Dea had a game-high 32 points, his personal best in regulation time (he scored 34 points earlier this season in triple-overtime).
O’Dea dominated the second quarter for the Dragons, scoring 10 points and briefly giving Lake Orion the lead before Rochester took over, 30-29 going into halftime.
Lake Orion took the lead for good with just over six minutes remaining, as they scored three consecutive three-pointers (two by O’Dea and one by freshman Drew Maynard). O’Dea scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Jon Krause had nine points, Maynard finished with seven and Justin Smith had six assists for the Dragons.
Against Troy, the Colts led 36-21 going into the half, but the Dragons were able to cut the lead to three points in the third quarter, with seven points from Krause.
Lake Orion cut Troy’s lead to two points in the fourth quarter, but the Colts remained in control for the rest of the game.
O’Dea again led the team with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Maynard had nine points and Krause finished with eight.
Smith scored five points for the team, as their season ended with a 10-12 record.
