Cagers continue their strong hold on to their sixth place position in the state after two back-to-back wins.
The wins brought their record to 16-2.
Clarkston beat Southfield-Lathrup, 73-66.
Julius Porter was 15-16 on free throws, which helped lead to his high score of 23 points throughout the game. Brandon Pokley was next and added 21 points to the board.
Tom Staton scored 10 points.
The team continued their streak the next day when they won against Utica, 60-43.
The first half of the game remained close in score for the two teams. As they took a break for half-time, the scoreboard read 25-25.
The Wolves came back to the court, picked up the pace, and quickly distanced themselves in the score.
Matt Kamieniecki scored the most points with 18. Pokley had 15 for the game, and Oliver Kupe closely followed with 14 points.
‘It was our first time playing Clarkston,? said Utica coach Gerry Kraemer.
‘It was a great experience. There are things we can take with us going into districts. We had about 16 good minutes from our players.?
‘I don’t know what to say about our kids,? said Clarkston coach Dan Fife. ‘The second half, they played very well. They were a little lethargic probably from last night’s game. The second half they were very good and turned up their intensity and played the game the way it’s suppose to be played. I was happy with their second half performance. This was the first time they went back-to-back, it was a good experience for us.?
The Wolves finish their regular season this week with two rematch league games.
The first league game was on Tuesday against Pontiac Northern.
They will host West Bloomfield on Thursday. They lost their first game of the season to West Bloomfield in January, 50-47.
The JV begins at 5:30 p.m., with Varsity following.
‘Tough week next week, both league games,? said Fife. ‘If we win both, we win the league. That’s what our goal is to do. We’re excited about it.?
The Varsity team will begin their first round in districts on Monday, and hosts district playoffs next week.
Lake Orion takes on Waterford Mott at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Wolves vs. Waterford Kettering at 7 p.m.
