Brandon’s coed varsity swimming team wrapped up its first season having built a solid foundation for the future.
The Blackhawks placed third out of four teams at the Flint Metro League meet Feb. 25-26 at Brandon. The Blackhawks finished with 313 points, beating out the combined Lapeer East/West team, which finished with 242 points.
Holly won the event with 619 points, while Fenton finished second with 533 points.
Brandon’s best individual finish came in the 100 yard backstroke, where Tyler Walls finished second with a time of 1:08.49, trailing only Holly’s Hans Kivari, who finished in 1:06.23.
The Blackhawks also notched a couple third-place finishes in relay events. The 200 yard medley relay team of Clayton Carpenter, Tyler Cole, Brad MacIntyre, and Tyson Delandsheer finished that event in 1:57.58, within striking distance of Fenton’s first-place time of 1:53.52.
In addition, the 200 yard freestyle team of Carpenter, Frank Cianek, Cole, and Walls took third in their event with a time of 1:47.95.
Other Brandon competitors who finished in the top five in their respective categories were: Cole, who finished third in the 100 yard freestyle (57.70); Delandsheer, who finished fourth in the 200 yard individual medley (2:29.48); and Zachary Cotton, who took fifth in diving with a score of 247.25.
