At first, the combined Lapeer East/West swimming team had things going their way against Brandon Oct. 12.
Lapeer won the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle to take the early lead, but after that, the Blackhawks dominated on their way to a 124-62 win in Flint Metro League action. The Blackhawks improved their Flint Metro League record to 4-1, good for second place in the league behind Linden.
The Blackhawks began to turn the race in their favor in the 200 yard IM, where Stephanie Peck (2:44.99), Allie Sowa (2:45.11) and Tara Bartle (2:46.88) finished in the top three spots.
Christina Hart followed that up with a win in the 50 yard freestyle (27.89), while Jamie Kirts won the one meter diving (136.3) and Sowa won the 100 yard butterfly (1:12.52).
The Blackhawks sealed the win by taking the first three places in the 500 yard freestyle, as Megan Kennedy (6:22.65), Shea Penny (6:44.76) and Alex Noonan (6:45.63) earned those spots. In addition, Bartle (1:24.32), Jessica Nutter (1:25.51) and Lauren McKone (1:27.93) finished first through third in the 100 yard breaststroke.
