Brandon swimmers defeat Clio, Oxford

Brandon’s girls swimming team proved to be the best of the bunch in a meet involving two other teams Thursday, Sept. 14.
The Blackhawks defeated Clio 82-19 and Oxford 69-32 in a battle of Flint Metro League teams at Brandon. Oxford defeated Clio 83-18.
Brandon finished first in eight events, including the opening event of the matchup, the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Kaitlin Grost, Tara Bartle, Stephanie Peck and Allie Sowa won that event with a time of 2:18.26.
Amber Criger followed that up with a win in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in 2:26.10. After the Wildcats won the 200 yard IM, the Blackhawks came back strong in the 50 yard freestyle, as Christina Hart (28.46) and Shannon Penix (30.56) finished first and second.
Other Brandon first-place finishers were: Sowa in the 100 yard butterfly, Grost in the 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke, the team of Grost, Sowa, Penix and Hart in the 200 yard freestyle relay, and Bartle in the 100 yard backstroke.
