Brandon netters shut out by Flushing

After a promising start at the Lapeer East tournament earlier this month, the Brandon girls tennis team suffered their first setback of the season.
The Blackhawks were shut out in their first dual meet of the 2004 campaign Aug. 23 against host Flushing, as the Raiders earned an 8-0 victory.
In singles action, Abby Pougnet defeated Amanda Bohr at #1 singles, 6-0, 6-0; Melissa Taylor defeated Monica Lambert at #2 singles, 6-3, 6-1; Jessica Stone defeated Danie Ashford at #3 singles, 6-0, 6-1; and Kathleen Farah defeated Jessica Sanday at #4 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, Kari Carnell and Natalie Galer defeated Jill Perry and Sarah Bond at #1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0; Julie Kehoe and Brianna Twohig defeated Lauren Dixon and Annemarie Solley at #2 doubles, 6-3, 6-0; Rachel Gossett and Christie Guenthner defeated Susan Gajdos and Laura Kwiatkowski at #3 doubles, 6-1, 6-0; and Lea Phillips and Elise Thompson defeated Anne McCabe and Megan Ostrowski at #4 doubles, 6-4, 6-2.
The Blackhawks return to action Aug. 31, when they travel to Stoney Creek for a 4 p.m. meet.
