At Holly High School Monday, Jan. 9, the Brandon Blackhawks began league play with a disappointing five-game loss to Holly 25-21, 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 14-16. Brandon lost to last year’s league champion, Lapeer East, in the second game of the doubleheader, 12-25, 20-25,16-25.
Team captain Sandra Oliver led the Blackhawks with 38 digs to go with 6 aces and 8 kills. Savannah Stedman added 28 kills, 6 blocks, and 14 digs, while sophomore Ashley Prescott contributed 5 aces on only 11 attempts for Brandon, which is currently 4-6-2 and 0-2 in the Flint Metro.
‘It was a close game with Holly. They came ready to play and stepped it up during crunch time, and we did not,? Brandon coach Brian Williams said. ‘Lapeer East proved they are still the team to beat in the Flint Metro. They passed the ball very well tonight.?
