Brandon’s varsity boys tennis team earned its first Flint Metro win of the season in a hard-fought match April 24.
The Blackhawks defeated visiting Lapeer East 5-3, improving their league record to 1-1. Brandon’s overall record is 3-1.
In singles action, Josh Coudret defeated Brent Purvis at #1 singles 6-2, 7-5, and Steve Sanday defeated Chris Frezza at #3 singles 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles action, Garrett Warrilow and Andy Collier defeated Sean Johnson and Scott Schneider at #1 doubles 6-3, 6-2; Troy Nuccio and Scott Thurman defeated Steve Elzerman and Dan Schneider at #2 doubles 6-4, 6-1; and Brad Kerin and Jimmy Appling defeated Dan Whiting and Eric Henry at #4 doubles 6-2, 6-4.
The Blackhawks split their two most recent matchups prior to spring break, losing to Flint Metro League rival Fenton 5-3 on April 11 and defeating Davison 6-2 on April 7.
Against Fenton, Coudret won at #1 singles and Sanday won at #4 singles, while Warrilow and Collier won at #1 doubles.
Meanwhile, against Davison, Ryan McCabe won at #2 singles, Sanday won at #3 singles and Ryan Reynolds won at #4 singles. In doubles action, Warrilow and Collier won at #1 doubles, while Nuccio and Thurman won at #2 doubles and Alex Burbo and Steve Pupillo won at #3 doubles.
