Brandon and Goodrich’s tennis teams both did themselves proud at the Goodrich Invitational Sept. 18.
The Blackhawks won the eight-team meet with 50 points, while Clio finished second (42), and the host Martians took third (39).
The Blackhawks dominated doubles competition, winning all four flights on their way to winning the invite. The winning Brandon teams were Lynsey Crain and Holly Gerber at #1 doubles; Sarah Bond and Megan Ostrowski at #2 doubles; Lauren Dixon and Annmarie Solley at #3 doubles; and Anne McCabe and Marilee Rump at #4 doubles.
The host Martians won three of four singles brackets to propel themselves to their third-place showing. Meredith Mayberry captured first at #1 singles, while Amanda Bishop did likewise at #2 singles and Amy Kovas at #4 singles. Noel McAuliffe finished second in the #3 singles bracket.
The Blackhawks dropped a 5-3 matchup against host Auburn Hills Avondale in a non-league contest Sept. 21.
All three of Brandon’s wins came at the doubles level. Bond and Ostrowski defeated Heather Zygonontowicz and Olivia Sitto at #2 doubles 0-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4); Dixon and Solley defeated Leah Kubit and Julie Marek at #3 doubles 6-3, 6-3; and McCabe and Rump defeated Holly Hanex and Lavanya Mohan 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1).
Brandon also lost a 6-2 contest against host Lake Orion Sept. 16. Crain and Gerber (at #2 doubles) and Bond and Rump (at #4 doubles) were the only Brandon competitors to win their matches.
