Brandon netters capture bronze at Okemos

Brandon’s varsity volleyball team started off their 2006-07 season by winning the bronze division of the Okemos Invitational Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Blackhawks defeated Kearsley 25-17, 21-25, 15-8 and Ypsilanti 25-17, 25-17 to capture the division title.
‘We lost several close games throughout the day but improved and played a lot better by the end or the day,? Brandon coach Brian Williams said. ‘We had many girls playing their first varsity games, and I was very pleased with our progress.?
Savannah Stedman had 55 kills, 26 digs and 11 blocks, and was 34-for-35 passing (97 percent), while Lindsay Moskal added 27 digs, 24 kills and 13 aces. Stacy Woloszyk was 58-for-59 serving with five aces, and 33 digs.
Williams said the team’s three sophomores ? Woloszyk, Danielle Kwasiborski and Monica Walls ? made steady improvement during the tournament.
Brandon’s next matchup is Thursday, Jan. 4 when they are scheduled to take on Linden in a Flint Metro League matchup.
