Michelle Tyrrell has a vision.
The Brandon Middle School seventh grade social studies and language arts teacher shared her view with students recently to glean many old, new, or used eyeglasses from the school along with the community. Later this month the glasses will be sent to Africa for those who otherwise would not have access to them.
‘I have an excellent group of kids this year who I felt would provide great participation,? said Tyrrell. ‘So far this has been true.?
In addition to more than 25 pair of eyeglasses, students have also donated loose change which goes to purchase glasses wholesale.
‘I thought this charity would be a positive class and schoolwide activity that would not require anyone to dip into their pockets, yet we could feel like we were making a difference somewhere in the world,? said Tyrrell. As a part of the curriculum the classes are also studying Africa.
