On Oct. 18 the Brandon junior varsity football team traveled to face the Swartz Creek Dragons for their final game of the season. Swartz Creek took an early 6-0 led in the first quarter. In the second quarter long runs by Mike Hurst and Kyle Westfall set up a 3 yard touchdown by Brandon’s Dakota Jones. Brandon missed their extra point and the game remained tied at 6-6 going into halftime.
In the second half good defensive plays by Nick Klanke, Colt Butler and Kendall Hooper helped stop the Swartz Creek Dragons that were in Brandon territory. However, Swartz Creek was able to break the tie by scoring two late touchdowns and went on to win the game 18-6. The loss moved the JV football team’s overall record to 6-2.
‘Every player on our team has made a contribution to our success,? said Edward Stermer, Brandon junior varsity football coach.
‘I judge our success not by wins or losses, but rather by determining if our players had a rewarding experience. I am certain we accomplished this.?
Kyle Westfall had the most yards rushing, and Dakota Jones had the most yards passing this season. Trevor Rigney had the most yards receiving, and Colt Butler, Dan George, and Jake Freeman had the most tackles.
The offensive lineman of the 2007 season is Ryan Muzzarelli, and the defensive lineman of the year is Josh Freeman. The 2007 junior varsity captains are Jake Evans, Dakota Jones, Dan George, Tyler Traynor, Kyle Westfall, and Ryan Muzzarelli.
‘Our biggest challenge this year was learning a whole new system with new plays,? Stermer said.
