The Brandon hockey team broke a 2-2 deadlock in the second period and pulled away to a 7-2 win against host Sterling Heights Stevenson Feb. 7.
The win improved Brandon’s season record to 11-4-2.
Mike Cybulski and Mike Ross tallied two goals and one assist apiece for the victorious Blackhawks, while Joel Pappas scored a goal and assisted on two others.
Stevenson’s Jake Lenard scored the first goal of the game with 8:29 left in the first, but Brandon’s Ross answered with 6:36 remaining to tie the contest at one. Pappas and Cybulski assisted on Ross? goal.
Just seven seconds later, the Blackhawks pulled ahead 2-1, as Cybulski scored on assists from Pappas and Ross.
The Titans would score their only other goal of the game with 7:59 left in the second period, as Anthony Balsamo connected on assists from Mike Goossens and Lenard.
From that point, it was all Brandon. Ross scored an unassisted goal, his second of the game, with 7:20 left in the period to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead.
Mark Westphal increased the Brandon lead to 4-2 with 5:23 left in the second, with goalie David Hughes notching the assist.
Third-period goals by Brandon Newman, Cybulski and Pappas iced the game for the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks return to action Feb. 18 when they take on the Bay City Thunder.
