Brandon High School’s vacant athletic director/assistant principal position called for a candidate with a wide range of educational experiences.
The Brandon school board determined Tom Rodenbaugh was the man to fill the job.
At the April 10 meeting, the board voted 6-0 to hired Rodenbaugh for the position.
He will begin April 24.
Rodenbaugh, currently the assistant principal and athletic director at Chippewa Middle School in Port Huron, replaces former Brandon athletic director Larry Lamphere, who resigned last month after nine years at that position.
In his new position, Rodenbaugh will serve as the athletic director at both Brandon High School and Brandon Middle School, and handle discipline issues and teacher evaluations as the assistant principal at BHS.
Rodenbaugh, who is in his 26th year in the Port Huron school district, said he thinks he is well-equipped to take on the Brandon job.
‘I think in dealing with administrative duties, you have to be willing to listen to people,? he said. ‘I try to make decisions with the information given to me.?
In his second year as Chippewa assistant principal/AD, Rodenbaug’s currently works with a student population of 643. Prior to that, he spent eight years as the assistant principal/AD at Port Huron Northern High School, which has a student population of nearly 1,800 students.
Brandon High School has about 1,218 students enrolled.
Prior to his administrative duties, Rodenbaugh spent 14 years as a special education teacher and two years as a teacher consultant in the Port Huron District, and worked for two years as a special education teacher in the North Penn School District in Lansdale, Pa.
Rodenbaugh’s wife, Rebecca Falk, is currently the director of special education for the Port Huron school district.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg State College in Pennsylvania, and earned his master’s degree in instructional technology from Wayne State University.
Rodenbaugh currently lives in Fort Gratiot, Mich. (in Port Huron Township), and said he has no plans to relocate to the area.
