Brandon’s varsity wrestling team will have a chance to see how they stack up against the rest of the county.
On Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17, the Blackhawks were scheduled to take part in the Oakland County Tournament at Clarkston High School. Brandon coach Josh Cross said all the teams in the tournament will compete against each other, as opposed to being divided according to school size.
The Blackhawks no doubt hope their fortunes turn for the better at the tournament after losing a dual meet Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Durand. Brandon lost 25-46 to Durand and 28-45 to Carmen-Ainsworth.
Against Durand, Andrew Hyde (152) won a 14-2 decision, while Aaron Hyde (171) earned a pinfall in 1:47 and Jake Beebe (112) captured a 12-8 decision.
Five Brandon wrestlers earned victories in the matchup against Carmen-Ainsworth. Andrew Hyde (152) won a 13-0 decision; Aaron Hyde (171) earned a pinfall victory in 45 seconds; Zeke Grounds (275) won a 9-7 overtime decision; Travis Murphy (112) won a 9-4 decision; and Ken McNeil (140) pinned his opponent in 5:08.
