Brandon four-on-four volleyball tournament deadline extended

Local volleyball players still interested in playing in Brandon’s first annual four-on-four volleyball tournament have the opportunity to participate.
Brandon volleyball coach Brian Williams said the deadline to register for the tournament, which originally was set at Monday, July 24, has been extended for a week through Monday, July 31.
The ‘Passin? on the Grass? volleyball tournament is scheduled to take place Friday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 5 at Brandon High School’s sand volleyball courts, 1025 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville.
Williams said he doesn’t know yet how many teams have signed up for the tournament. ‘We won’t really know for a while, as far as the number of teams are concerned, until the middle of next week,? he said.
Tournament organizer Dan Purvis, of Lapeer, said teams interested in participating in the tournament, but who do not sign up by the deadline, may still sign up on the day of the tournament. However, they will not be guaranteed a T-shirt, which is given to all participants who sign up by the deadline.
If the number of teams participating in Brandon’s summer volleyball leagues is an accurate gauge of how many teams will take part in the tournament, then it should be a successful two days in August for the Brandon volleyball program.
The leagues, which are in their second year of existence at Brandon, take place Tuesdays and Wednesdays during July and August. The girls? leagues take place on Tuesdays, while coed leagues take place on Wednesdays.
Williams said a total of 18 teams are signed up for the girls? leagues, while 10 teams take part in the coed leagues. Last year, there were 11 girls? teams and seven coed teams.
