Brandon Firefighters will breathe a little easier soon thanks to a grant received last week.
A grant from the Department of Homeland Security for $72, 270 will be used to fund an exhaust system that allows fire trucks to run inside both Brandon’s fire stations on Sashabaw Road and South Street. The system is needed, says Brandon Fire Chief Bob McArthur, to afford firefighters the ability to test pumps and engines without spreading harmful diesel fumes throughout the station or having to run the tests outside in the elements.
I was shocked that we received the grant,? said McArthur. ‘There’s no way we could have afforded this project with the help.?
