Brandon’s girls basketball team could not capitalize with first place on the line in the Flint Metro League.
The Blackhawks dropped an overtime contest Sept. 21 to host Linden, 30-26, suffering their first loss in league action. Brandon is now 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the league.
‘Last night was for first, and we handed the game to them, so that was kind of disappointing,? Brandon coach Bryan Ray said the day after the game.
The Blackhawks pulled away in the second half of their game against Walled Lake Western Sept. 17, defeating the visiting Warriors 43-23.
Brandon held an 18-13 lead at halftime, but firmly took command of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Western 13-4 in that frame.
The Blackhawks were the more aggressive team taking it to the hoop, as evidenced by the teams? number of free throw attempts. Brandon was 10-of-18 from the free throw line (55.6 percent), while the Warriors were 4-of-8 (50 percent) from the charity stripe.
Stedman had a very productive night for the Blackhawks, scoring 20 points. Kelsey Guiliani led Western (0-5) with five points.
Ray said Stedman needs to produce like she did against Western on a more consistent basis in order for the Blackhawks to be successful.
‘She has to understand she’s capable of doing that every night,? he said.
Brandon’s next action comes Sept. 30 when they travel to Oxford for a Flint Metro League contest.
