Brandon boys track nabs sixth place at New Lothrop invite

The Brandon boys track team held their own at the New Lothrop Relays April 16, finishing in the upper half of teams at the meet.
The Blackhawks placed sixth out of 12 teams at the relays, with Brandon earning third place finishes in three events.
The pole vault team of Steve Pierce and Jordan Wingett finished third, with Pierce clearing a personal best mark of 11?.
Meanwhile, the 400 meter relay team of Jonee Harris, Jawan Simpson, Chris Ritchie, and Matt Crandall also took third place, as did the sprint medley team of Jason Ledgerwood, Harris, Simpson, and Brendon Moquin.
Brandon’s other placers came in the 300 meters, with Ledgerwood placing second and Nick Mackie fifth.
The Blackhawks defeated Waterford Kettering in an April 17 meet, capturing first place in nine events.
In field events, Mitch Walker captured the shot put with a throw of 41?3?, Mike Via won the discus with a throw of 114?9?, and Pierce won the pole vault with a jump of 10?.
The Blackhawks also captured six distance events in tahe meet. Ledgerwood won the high hurdles (17.39) and the 300 meter hurdles (44.3); Simpson won the 100 meter dash (11.9); and Harris won the 200 meter dash (24.8).
In addition, the 400 meter relay team of Crandall, Ritchie, Harris, and Simpson (47.6) and the 1600 meter relay team of Kevin Gibson, Moquin, Phil Sache, and Ledgerwood (3.56.9) won their respective events.
The Blackhawks also took nine second place finishes: Moquin in the long jump and 400 meter dash; Antoine Carpenter in the shot put and discus; Ledgerwood in the high jump; Wingett in the pole vault; Mackie in the high hurdles; Harris in the 100 meter dash ; Crandall in the 200 meter dash; and Chris Holton in the 3200 meter run.
