Four seniors stepped on the home court hardwood as Wildcats for the last time as they played their final home game defeating Royal Oak 48-39.
A combination of early foul trouble and very flat defense coupled with lazy-settle for three pointer offense spelled trouble for Oxford, according to boys? varsity Head Coach Paul Marfia.
‘Luckly we had halftime and refocused what Oxford basketball has to be,? Marfia said. ‘I challenge our seniors to play a tougher brand of basketball.?
The boys responded to the call in the third 20-2 run over the first seven minutes of the third and continued to grind it out from the three point line and played what Marfia called ‘moment of team defense.?
‘We are peaking at the right time and have to use the momentum into districts. It was a great finish for our seniors and I am proud of them,? he said. Now I can’t wait to keep building on it for districts – With a win we will guarantee back to back winning seasons for the first time since 1994.?
Unfortunately that win didn’t come for Oxford. In a close game against Andover they lost 62-60.
