Coming off a string of victories, the Oxford varsity boys soccer team now stands undefeated in the Flint Metro League at 5-0.
At last Wednesday’s game against the Fenton, the Wildcats tamed the Tigers 2-1 and knew the game would set the tone for the rest of league play.
After a night of back and forth plays, Oxford didn’t back off one bit and continued to attack from start to finish.
Senior captain Zac Wasylyna put the Wildcats on the board with a free-kick inside the 18-yard box.
‘The keeper didn’t have a chance to stop the shot that flew right past him,? said coach John Thaler.
With the score at one a piece, Oxford’s offense went into overdrive, with senior captain Mark Jones earning a corner kick, ending the game.
On Monday, the Cats played Brandon knowing the Blackhawks would put up a strong fight, but in the end, Oxford dominated the hawks 3-1.
Senior Francesco Paese did some outstanding weaving in and out of players to feed sophomore Doug Kiracofe a pass to bring the score to 1-0 in the first half.
‘There was no letdown by either team and the pressure mounted from both sides,? Thaler said.
In the second half, Brandon equalized and the game was 1-1.
Oxford pushed ahead again from a 40-yard free-kick from senior captain Erik Anderson, who placed it right above the goal keeper making it 2-1.
‘Sophomore keeper Steven Walker made an outstanding save to keep Oxford in the game moments later,? Thaler said.
Jones finished the game after a short pass from junior Andrew Klimbal, ending the game.
The boys? overals record now stands at 10-2. They travel to Lapeer East tonight for a 4:30 game.
