The Holly/Oxford Boys finished third with 137 points at the Southereastern Michigan Ski League (SEMSL) Championship race held at Alpine Valley on Feb. 18.
First place included Bloomfield Hills with 57 points, followed by Birmingham Brother Rice in second with 127 points.
‘The boys had a pretty solid day overall. Not the best slalom in the morning. We had two boys fall on the first run, so they were really focusing on dialing it back and getting four solid finishes to keep us in the race,? Head Coach Phil Nemo said. ‘They skied phenomenally in the afternoon GS. It was definitely one of their best GS races and they finished in second in the GS. Overall the third place was a good finish after a rough morning.?
In the Giant Slalom (GS) Lars Joergens-Koka finished fourth with 37.97 and 10 with 43.94 in the slalom; Dillon Sink finished 10 in the GS with 38.99; Greg Schultz pulled down 13 in the GS and 53 in slalom with 1:04.57; Zac Felix took 21 in the GS with 39.62 and 19 in the slalom with 46.37; Aaron Johnston placed 23 in the GS with 39.80; Spencer Christen took 37 in the GS with 40.68 and 20 slalom with 46.54. Tyler Kwapis also placed 40 in the slalom with a runtime of 52.39.
‘Dillon Sink skied really well in the GS,? Nimmo noted. ‘He’s been consistently 10th or so in our division, but he really nailed his first run and ended up cracking the top 10, which puts him on the All-League Team.??
Emma Ford also skied as an individual qualifier for the girls and placed 22 in the GS and 40 in the slalom.
Emma had a great sophomore season. She has skied well, having top 10 finishes in our Division,? Nimmo said. ‘Tuesday wasn’t her cleanest race of the year but she still had a solid day against some tough competition. Overall she has made a lot of progress this year and her next 2 years will be very exciting.?
Joergens-Koka and Schultz also represented the boys? team at Schuss Mountian for the individual state finals on Monday.
‘Lars trains there quite a bit and both him and Greg ski well on that hill. I was pumped that they both qualified, and they definitely deserved it after how they have skied this year,? Nimmo said. ‘It will be a lot of fun watching them compete against the best in the state, and they should be able to do very well.?
