The Oxford varsity bowling teams had a busy weekend, competing in the Oakland County Tournament Saturday and against Waterford Mott Sunday.
At the tournament, which took place at 300 Bowl in Waterford, 56 boys and girl teams from across the county competed in the day long event.
Oxford’s varsity boys were able to qualify into the first seed, which put them against Novi.
After falling behind in the first two matches, Oxford made a comeback and moved on to the quarterfinals against Novi Catholic Central.
It took five games to complete, but the boys lost the match.
Senior Andrew McClarty was awarded a medal for being in the Top 10 for his high game of 258 and his series of 654.
Although the Oxford varsity girls qualified for the 13th seed, they were knocked out early by South Lyon.
‘Every game they improved, though,? said junior varsity coach Steve Burgess. ‘It’s quite a feat for them to have been qualified.?
Unfortunately on Sunday, both varsity teams suffered another loss. The boys lost 13-17 to Mott and fell to a 4-1 standing in the Northern Lakes Conference, which ties them with Mott and Clarkston.
The girls lost 3-27 to Mott and remain at their standing of 0-5.
‘It’s just a matter of time,? Burgess said. The next conference meet will be this Sunday, at Cherry Hill Lanes North against Clarkston.
