It seems teenagers in Oxford are ‘bored.?
That’s what Oxford parent Erica DiCosmo believes is the reason behind the recent vandalism at Daniel Axford Elementary School.
Sometime over the summer, someone broke doors off of the school’s shed on the south side of the building and pulled out six brand new tricycles to the playground.
Although none of them were damaged, the individual(s) left them strewn about the playground in a messy state.
DiCosmo, an Early Childhood Developmental Delay (ECDD) parent at the school, wrote the grant in May to purchase the tricycles, which cost about $100 a piece, and is very upset.
The tricycles, as well as other pieces of handicap-friendly playground equipment, are to help the children in the program who have problems with their motor skills.
The village police told her there was nothing that could be done to find the individuals who made the mess.
‘Parents need to be sure of what their kids are up to,? DiCosmo said. ‘Make sure if they say they’re going to the playground you follow through on what they’re actually doing up there.?
DiCosmo believes this incident could have been prevented if teens had more to do in Oxford. ‘It’s hard for these kids to find something to do,? she said. ‘There’s nothing to do here.?
