After a minor set-back last Wednesday at their first league game against Holly, the Oxford varsity boys soccer team came back strong Monday night for a 2-0 win against Clio.
The Wildcats controlled much of the game in the first half and had numerous opportunities for shots at the goal.
Senior exchange student Nicholas Schrecker entered the game as a substitute player and landed the first goal into the Mustang’s net, with senior captain Andrew Klimbal’s assist.
In the second half, junior mid-fielder Steven Walker pulled away from two Clio players and bulleted a shot over the goal keeper’s head for the second goal of the night.
‘Oxford really played as a cohesive unit tonight and played quite well,? Coach John Thaler said.
Last week’s 1-3 lost game against Holly left a bitter taste in the Cat’s mouth.
Although Oxford dominated possession during the first half of the game, it was no match for Holly’s great offense.
The only goal of the night came from senior captain Gethin Angell.
The Wildcats are now 1-1 in the FML and 3-3-1 overall. They take on Davison Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
