With only six minutes left in the game, the Oxford varsity girl’s soccer team beat Lapeer West 2-0 on Monday night.
Oxford controlled much of the game in the first half with good passing and communication.
Senior captain goal keeper Kelly Henry had to make a few key saves in the first half, but was rarely tested.
‘The Wildcat defense held strong and didn’t allow West through the back line,? Coach John Thaler said. ‘The offense got a few great chances to test the keeper, but just missed on a few opportunities.?
In the second half Oxford came out strong, with a little help from the wind at their backs.
With six minutes left in the game, senior defensive mid-fielder Ashley Marshall made a run up the middle and fed senior captain Sam Bono a great ball that pinged the post and made it into the net.
With only a few seconds left in the game, Oxford won a free-kick from 40 yards out.
Sophomore defenseman Brittany Moncrieff took the shot and scored.
‘Oxford won a hard fought match as a total team effort as the mid-field really came together as a solidified control of the game,? Thaler said.
Oxford’s overall record is now 3-2 and their FML record is 2-1. They travel to Fenton for a game tonight.
