The Oxford Wildcats soccer team had a great week, picking up three shutout victories to improve to 6-1-1 in the Oakland Activities Blue Division.
On Monday, The Cats beat North Farmington, 1-0, in a battle of two second-place teams in the OAA Blue.
Oxford’s only goal came from Paul Tomaka when he lofted a ball from the right wing, near the sideline, that just seemed to float and land into the far corner, barely under the crossbar. The score came with 13:40 left to play in the first half.
It was a physical game but Oxford’s defenders stopped several runs by North Farmington.
Oxford’s defender Matthew Reed saved a goal when he cleared a ball from the front of the Wildcat’s net after goalie Connor Bandel couldn’t make a save on the kick early in the second half.
Coach John Thaler credited his defense with playing a flawless game. He cited Josh Nelson and Zach Hinman with helping to lead the defense.
The Wildcats picked up two other victories last week, 6-0, over Ferndale and 8-0 over Hazel Park.
Chase Garavaglia, Tommy Downs, Jacob Wysocki, Joseph Hurford and Noah Skzycki had the goals for Oxford. Greg Knox had three assists versus Ferndale.
Senior captain Tomaka had a hat trick against Hazel Park. Garavaglia had two goals while Travis Simat, Jake Champion and Knox each had one goal.
