Coach Nathan Hunter and the Brandon varsity soccer team are looking to fine tune their game as the regular season heads toward a close.
The Blackhawks concluded their Flint Metro League season Wednesday, Oct. 4 with a 6-0 shutout of Swartz Creek. Ryan Morales notched a hat trick for the Blackhawks, while Derek Liebner, Nick Loeffler and Nick Bognar added one goal apiece.
Brandon finished the league season at 4-3-1, and currently have a 7-5-2 overall mark.
In a game that started Monday, Oct. 2 and was postponed until the following day due to lightning, the Blackhawks tied visiting Lapeer East 1-1. Liebner scored the Blackhawks? lone goal in the second half of the contest.
The Blackhawks have one more scheduled regular season game against Port Huron Northern, and are scheduled to begin district competition Monday, Oct. 16 at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep.
Hunter said he is optimistic the Blackhawks will make a good showing once the playoffs arrive.
‘Actually, I think we’re playing really terrific football right now,? he said. ‘The boys are really jelling right now. We’re looking forward to a good playoff run.?
Hunter said the biggest concern for the Blackhawks down the stretch has been their lack of experience in goal, which he said has cost the team during their losses. On the flip side, the Blackhawks have created plenty of scoring chances the entire season.
