The Oxford Wildcats needed overtime to ground the Brandon Blackhawks 28-21 in varsity football action Sept. 28.
The Blackhawks seemed to be on their way to victory when Brandon’s James Whitton scored a touchdown from 11-yards out, putting the Blackhawks up 21-14.
However, the Wildcats answered and tied the game up late in the fourth quarter, forcing the game into overtime. The Wildcats went on offense first, and Nick Tombrella passed the ball to Joel Fortier, giving the Wildcats a 16-yard touchdown. The Blackhawks had to make a touchdown in four plays or the game was over. Brandon gained seven yards in the first three plays in overtime, setting the team up fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line. Brandon’s fourth down pass fell incomplete, giving the Wildcats the win.
‘It was a tough loss,? says Brandon Varsity Football Coach Tim Puzalla.
‘The team competed. I was proud of them. Now we just have to rebound next week and beat Fenton.?
Brandon will play at Lapeer East Oct. 12 at 6:55.
