The Brandon Blackhawks boys swim team swam their way to a victory against Kearsley-Davison Jan. 15, winning the meet by three points. At the end of the night the team swam away with a 93-90 win.
‘Both teams did a great job competing,? says Todd Duncan, Brandon varsity swim coach.
‘Almost every race came down to the finish. The meet came down to the last event. When a meet is won by three points, that means every individual swimmer on the team played a key role. Fifth place out six places is one point, and we won by three.?
In the first event of the night, the 200 yard medley relay, the Brandon team of Reece Lamson, Tim Hurst, Aaron Hussong, and Bryan Sweson took a first place win with a time of 1:54.07, giving the Brandon Blackhawks eight points.
The boys didn’t fare as well in the second event, the 200 yard freestyle, but they still took a second place thanks to Joshua Dolecki with a 2:06.51 final time. Kyle Helme placed third for Brandon with a time of 2:18.15, and John Durkee was right behind him in fourth with a time of 2:25.39.
In the fourth event, the 50 yard freestyle, Brandon completely took over the pool, taking first, second, and third places. Lamson came in first with a time of 25.53, Sweson came in second with a time of 26.01, and Joshua Severeide came in third with 26.31.
The boys continued to place well for the rest of the night. In the ninth event, the 200 yard freestyle relay, the boys again stole the two top spots. The relay team of Dolecki, Hurst, Severeide, and Sweson took first place with a time of 1:43.53. Max Cotton, Connor Bartle, Helmle, and Casey Bryant took second for the Blackhawks.
The boys finished out the night with first and second place in the 100 yard breaststroke. Tyler Gorney was in first with the time of 1:11.09 and Hurst came in second for the Blackhawks with a 1:12.41 finish time. With the last event of the night Brandon took second and third place, and won the meet.
During the meet four school records were broken, Dolecki in the 200 and 500 and Aaron Hussong in the 100 fly and 200 IM.
‘Last week we were out touched in several close races, this week it was the opposite,? says Duncan.
The Brandon Blackhawks will swim at 6 p.m. at home against Waterford Mott High School Jan. 22.
