As the Brandon golf team’s season heads toward the home stretch, the Blackhawks have shown they are heading in the right direction.
The Blackhawks finished in the upper half of teams competing in the Oakland County Division 2 Tournament at Pontiac Municipal Golf Course Sept. 27. Brandon finished with a team score of 316, good for 11th place out of the 24 teams that completed the tournament.
Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood won the tournament with a score of 292, while Royal Oak Dondero finished second (293) and North Farmington third (299).
Will Hubbard led the Blackhawks with a score of 76, while Tom Voyer shot a 79. Rounding out the Brandon scoring were Ryan Bilkos (79), Brian Jordan (83), and Matt Miller (95).
Heading into their Sept. 29 league meet against Lapeer East, the Blackhawks are 2-3 in Flint Metro League competition, with a chance to finish at .500 if they can defeat the Eagles.
Coming off a 1-5 league campaign in 2003, Brandon coach John Ubbing said he is pleased with the progress the team has made this season.
‘It’s certainly something the kids should be proud of,? he said. ‘We’re competing and beating some of the schools we’re supposed to beat.?
