Blackhawk girls harriers step up to fourth at county meet

The Brandon girls cross country team demonstrated to others ? and themselves ? they could compete with the best in Oakland County.
The Blackhawks finished fourth at the Oct. 9 Oakland County cross country meet with a total of 230 points, as three of their runners placed among the top 50 individual finishers. Brandon was the top-ranked team among Division 2-4 schools in the county.
Clarkston, the top-ranked team in the state, dominated the meet with 30 points, while Milford finished a distant second (122) and Novi third (184).
Junior Kayla Doan was the leading runner for the Blackhawks, placing 29th overall with a time of 20:48. Sophomore Kelsey Carmean (45th, 21:13) and freshman Jamie Hendershott (50th, 21:22) also finished among the top 50 runners for Brandon.
Other Brandon competitors at the county meet were junior Kelly Wilson (51st, 21:23), sophomore Sarah Eldon (60th, 21:36), senior Danie Ashford (74th, 21:53), and senior Jackie Back (91st, 22:26).
