A razor thin margin sent write-in candidate Richard Bisio to Clarkston City Council, joining incumbents Charles Inabnit and Peg Roth.
‘It was very tight ? he won by about three votes,? said Clarkston Clerk/Treasurer Jan Gillespie, Wednesday morning.
According to unofficial results, Inabnit received 184 votes, and Roth, 162 votes, in Tuesday’s election. Challengers Bisio, Michael Sabol, and Frank Schoebel split 488 write-in votes:
Bisio, 161 votes;
Sabol, 158 votes; and
Schoebel, 156 votes.
‘Almost all the names were spelled correctly,? Gillespie said. ‘Voters really did their homework.?
Joe Luginski, running unopposed for mayor, received 268 votes. Out of 818 registered Clarkston voters, 451 cast ballots, a 55 percent turn-out.
Clarkston Community Schools voters sent incumbent Elizabeth Egan back to the Board of Education with over 3,000 votes to spare.
Egan received 7,149 votes, with all 22 precincts reporting. She was appointed to Clarkston School Board this past April. Challenger John Schrei received 4,032 votes.
Voter turnout was heavy throughout the Clarkston area.
‘We have used a ton of ballots and we have been steady busy all day,? said Sandy Miller, Independence Township election department, which ran the school board election. ‘Even some of the precincts where people don’t vote much, they were definitely out there voting ? that’s a good thing.?
Gillespie said they, too, were busy all morning and afternoon.
