It’s been 12 years since Brandon High School graduation was moved from the school to the Meadow Brook pavilion in Rochester.
Superintendent Lorrie McMahon says that while the district has invested $7 million in a new activities complex with the seating and parking capacity to host a graduation of about 300 graduates along with a few thousand spectators’don’t look for a move back to the township campus anytime soon.
‘We’ll take a look at moving the graduation back, but the cost savings is just not there,? said McMahon.
The Meadow Brook facility costs the district about $9,500 to rent, which includes complete set up for graduation. In contrast, McMahon said if the commencement was held at the football stadium, several costs need to be considered? including a staff of custodians to set up chairs, decorations, and cleanup after the ceremony.
‘Weather is also a factor at the outside stadium,? she said. ‘The gymnasium will also have to be ready to go in case of rain’that adds to the costs too.?
