BHS girls swimmers wrap up season runner-up in Flint Metro

Brandon’s varsity girls swimming team wrapped up its 2005 regular season continuing to make steady progress in its second year as a varsity sport.
The Blackhawks finished second in the Flint Metro League meet Nov. 4-5 at Fenton, compiling a team score of 499.
The host Tigers won the meet going away with 689, while Holly finished third (360) and the combined Lapeer East/West team fourth (207).
As it turns out, the order of finish in the league meet was also the order of the Flint Metro’s final league standings, with Fenton winning the league title ahead of the runner-up Blackhawks. Brandon finished with a 2-1 record in league dual meet action.
The Tigers took first place in 10 of 12 events at the league meet, with Holly’s Brittany Whetham winning the other two, the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.
Nonetheless, the Blackhawks turned in some noteworthy individual performances, particularly in the 100 yard butterfly, where Stephanie Peck and Allie Sowa finished third and fourth, respectively, with times of 1:13.92 and 1:16.03.
Peck also finished fourth in the 200 yard IM (2:44.09), while Kelly Kennedy placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle (6:17.89) and fifth in the 200 yard freestyle (2:20.75).
Aubree King notched a fifth-place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:19.52), while Jamie Kirts and Alicia Reiner took fifth and sixth in diving with scores of 256.80 and 216.05, respectively.
The Blackhawks finished third out of four teams in all three relay events ? the 200 yard medley, 200 yard freestyle, and 400 yard freestyle.
