Brandon’s girls cross country team is now officially on the map.
The Blackhawks, who went undefeated in Flint Metro League dual meet competition, earned their first league championship in school history by winning the league meet Oct. 20 at Bryam Park in Linden.
Coach Rod Yeacker’s team placed six runners in the top 10 as the Blackhawks won the meet with 29 points, well ahead of second-place Fenton (65) and third-place Linden (80).
Kelsey Carmean headed up the Blackhawks? efforts, finishing third overall (20:19), while four Brandon runners finished in fifth through eighth places: Jamie Hendershott (20:24), Kayla Doan (20:28.2), Danie Ashford (20:28.5), and Sarah Eldon (20:28.9).
Kelly Wilson was the Blackhawks? other top 10 finisher, placing 10th (20:40).
While Yeacker said the league win was important, his team is turning its attention to the postseason.
‘We’re more focused on the regional and state meets,? he said.
The Brandon boys team finished in fourth place at the league meet as well as in the overall league standings. The Blackhawks finished with 109 points at the meet, behind league champion Fenton (38), Oxford (54), and Linden (70).
Brad Lawrence was the Blackhawks? top runner, placing 18th overall (17:56). Chris Holton (19th, 17:58) and Steve Sanday (20th, 17:59) were right behind.
Rounding out the Brandon efforts were Adam George (25th, 18:21), Eric Edhe (27th, 18:32), Allan McLellan (33rd, 19:17), and Trevor DeWitt (34th, 19:33).
