While neither the boys nor girls bowling teams made the cut at the state finals, both clubs pulled off their best seasons to date in qualifying for the MHSAA finals on March 5 at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights.
At the state finals the girls team finished with 2009 total pins. New Baltimore Anchor Bay was the last team to qualify for the finals with 2134 pins. Taylor Truman was tops in the qualifying block with 2388 pins, however White Lake Lakeland won the girls team title by defeating Grand Blanc.
The boys team finished with 2224 pins in the state finals qualifying block. Port Huron was the last finals qualifier with 2349. Detroit Catholic Central was tops through the qualifying rounds with 2600. At the end of the day though, Warren DeLaSalle was crowned champion after defeating Grand Haven.
While Clarkston’s bowlers did not shine in the state finals the two teams did quite well at regionals on Feb. 25. The boys took first place in their draw and the girls team finished in third place.
For the boys, Jeromy Wagner missed going to states singles competition by 1 pin and finished in eighth place overall. Ryan Motto finished in 10th, eight pins out of placing and Sean Welch came in 22nd. Also representing Clarkston were Robert Appel (51st) and Jackson Kimball (59th).
The Wolves? April Pieknik led all female bowlers at regionals with a six game total of 1257. Her first place finish is Clarkston’s highest ever. Pieknik finished 25th overall in the state singles finals on March 3.
Helping the girls team on their way to qualifying to states were: Sam Stolnicki who came in eighth and missed going to states by 8 pins; Kelly Anderson who finished 17th overall and had a high game of 277; Jessica Hart (40th) and Katie Grunis (60th)
On the season the boys team finished with a record of 8-2, finished second in the league and won the Oakland County Championship.
The girls finished 5-5 overall, took second place in the league and finished second at the Oakland County Championships.
